Carnival Corporation and their 12 Cruise Lines

In April of 2003, Carnival Corporation and P&O Princess Cruises plc merged by way of a dual listed company structure.  P&O Princess Cruises plc became Carnival plc.

The two "companies" run as a single economic entity through contractual agreements.  Together, Carnival Corporation and plc have 12 separate brands of cruise lines world wide.  They include Carnival Cruise Lines,  Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Seabourne Cruise Line, Windstar Cruises, AIDA, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, P&O Cruises, Ocean Village, Swan Hellenic, and P&O Cruise Australia.

These companies have a total of 77 ships with nine new cruise ships on the way in 2004, 2005 and 2006.  These existing ships have over 128,000 berths!  The Carnival Corporation also operates a couple of the leading tour companies in North America.  The corporation is also the only entity in the world to be include on both the S&P 500 and the FTSE 100 indices.

Carnival Corporation vacation brands attract about 5.4 million guests every year.  This is at least in part due to their having a tremendously wide range of  vacation products for their guests.  The company can offer the vacationer many different levels of travel luxury and itineraries aboard their magnificent cruise ships.  It has become one of the most profitable companies in the leisure travel industry because of this.

With headquarters in Miami Florida, Carnival Corporation employs over 65,000 people worldwide.  They have almost 55,000 crew members in their cruise lines in total, and there are approximately 175,000 people at sea at any time with Carnival.

Carnival Cruise Lines is one of the most popular and profitable cruise lines in the world.  With its 20 existing cruise ships with more on order,  Carnival offers destinations to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, the Panama Canal and others.  Most cruises range between 3 and 7 days.


Princess Cruises have eleven cruise ships calling at more than 200 ports of call across the globe.  They have 4 new  ships slated for delivery by 2006.  Most of their cruises range from 7 to 14 days with some up to 30 days.  Itineraries include many of those listed above as well as the South Pacific, South America and Asia.


Holland America Line is a leader in premium cruises operating 12 five star cruise ships.  The cruise line has two more ships slated for delivery in the next couple of years.  HAL visits about 280 ports of call in its primary destinations.


Seabourne Cruise Line  operates three intimate all suite luxury cruise ships.  Known as the Yachts of Seabourne, they offer the pampering service that almost one staff member per guest can only provide.  The ships are exquisitely appointed and sail to destinations around the world.


Windstar Cruises epitomizes romance under sail.  The cruise line's three luxurious sailing yachts offer to its guests all ocean view staterooms. They have a capacity of only 148 to 308 privileged guests.  Sailing to exotic and intriguing ports, Windstar pampers their guests with five star service.


P&O Cruises is the largest cruise line in the UK.  They have a four cruise ship fleet offering cruises to the Mediterranean, the Baltic, the Norwegian Fjords and others including world voyages.


Cunard Line operates a fleet of three magnificent ships.  The most famous ocean liner Queen Mary 2 and her sister Queen Elizabeth 2 have been offering the only regular transatlantic crossings.  The third ship in the fleet will leave the group in 2005 making room for the new Queen Victoria, a 1,968 passenger ship rounding out Cunard's three Queens.


Ocean Village is a relatively new cruise line in the UK offering a more relaxed, informal cruise experience for the younger crowd.  They operate in the Mediterranean in the summers and the Caribbean in the winters.


Swan Hellenic targets the UK with a program of "discovery cruises".  Itineraries are offered in many parts of the world including the Indian Ocean, the Americas, and the Far East.


Costa Cruises, headquartered in Italy is one of Europe's leading cruise lines.  They currently have ten cruise ships with two more slated for delivery in the next two years as well.  These ships have itineraries in Europe, the Caribbean, and South America.


Aida is one of the best known brand in the expanding German cruise market.  Its four club ships offer cruise to the Baltic, Canary Islands, the Mediterranean and others.


P&O Cruises Australia has a contemporary product catering to Australians.  They offer 7 to 14 night cruises to Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji from their home ports.
